ACIP Recommendations on COVID-19 Vaccine and Booster Eligibility

COVID-19 Pediatric Vaccines
On November 2, 2021, the Advisory Committee on Immunization Practices (ACIP) issued approval for administration of the Pfizer-BioNTech COVID-19 vaccine series to children ages 5-11 years old.

For more information on these updated recommendations, view the media statement released by the CDC.

COVID-19 Vaccine Boosters
On November 19, 2021, the ACIP issued new recommendations for administration of a single dose booster for all three available COVID-19 vaccines in the United States.

For more information on these updated recommendations, see below or view the media statement released by the CDC.

  • Booster shots for Pfizer-BioNTech and Moderna vaccines are available to adults ages 18+ who completed their second dose at least six months prior.
  • Booster shots for the Johnson & Johnson vaccine are available to adults ages 18+ who completed their initial dose at least two months prior.

Mix-and-match dosing for booster shots has also been approved by the CDC, allowing COVID-19 booster recipients to choose a vaccine dose that differs from their primary series.
